What am I currently reading?

I am currently reading All Souls Near & Nigh by Hailey Turner, the second book in the Soulbound series. I read the first one in this series back when it originally came out, over two years ago. I remember enjoying it but I guess I just never got around to continuing it. Next thing I know there are six books, with the seventh and final one coming out later this year. It’s a M/M romance and urban fantasy that follows Patrick Collins, a Special Agent of the Supernatural Operations Agency. He’s working a case that involves immortals that have been popping in and out of his life since a traumatic event when he was younger. As his past comes back to haunt him, he also ends up meeting a sexy werewolf that the Fates have thrown in his path. So far I’m really liking this series. The world building is neat and has a different take on gods from many myths and legends. Can’t wait to see how this story plays out.

What did I recently finish reading?

53993608. sy475

I recently finished reading Cry Wolf  by Charlie Adhara, the fifth book in the Big Bad Wolf series. I mentioned in my post last month that I read the first book awhile ago and the rest of the series recently became available through my library. I devoured these ones pretty quickly. I’ve really come to like the main two characters and the plot itself in each book keeps me coming back for more. I am eagerly waiting for more to come out, even though this fifth one was just published this year. I’m assuming I’ll have to wait until next year for the sixth. I also finished reading Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett, the first book in The Founders Trilogy. I was buddy reading this one with my good friend Emily @embuhleeliest. AND IT WAS AMAZING. We both fell in love with this one pretty quickly and I cannot wait until we read the second one together. I read a few more M/M romance books as well but I won’t go into detail because I’m lazy ^^;

What do I think I’ll read next?

52664521. sx318 sy475

Emily and I are still planning to start the first book in the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson, The Final Empire. We haven’t really discussed when we’ll start but I’m thinking in the next week or so, or maybe the beginning of April. Up to her since I know she’s doing other buddy reads as well. I also plan on continuing the Soulbound series with the third book, A Crown of Iron & Silver.

What am I currently reading?

37173847. sy475

I am currently reading Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett, the first book in The Founders Trilogy. I’m buddy reading this one with my good friend Emily @embuhleeliest. We’re a bit over halfway done with this one and IT’S SO GOOD. I’ve been wanting to read this one for awhile now and I’m glad I finally started it. Making it a buddy read is only making the experience better! The characters, the world building, the humor, the plot. So far I’m digging ALL OF IT. And the pace. So much happens each week I’m reading it (we’re currently reading six chapters a week) that it’s hard to put it down! It’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. Maybe I’ll actually make a review on it when we’re done. If you haven’t read this one yet, so far I highly recommend it! I am also currently reading Dark Around the Edges by Cari Z. This is a M/M paranormal romance that revolves around a private security firm agent, Devon, who is a human/incubus hybrid and his sometimes partner (in both the field and the bed), Rio. The book focuses on their hunt for a dangerous summoner, which then leads them to the demon behind a number of antagonistic events. I’m about 70% finished and have been thoroughly enjoying it!

What did I recently finish reading?

Coming Up for Air

I recently finished reading Coming Up for Air by Amanda Meuwissen, a M/M fantasy romance involving mermaids. Overall I haven’t’ read many books that focus on mermaids but, after reading the synopsis, this one intrigued me! At first I got sort of a The Little Mermaid vibe, but there were so many unique things about the characters and storyline that the comparisons quickly fell away. In a good way though. The lore surrounding mermaids in this book was different and more interesting than anything else I’ve read about them and I liked the fact that the main character had ties to the mafia – it made the plot more interesting than just your typical romance. Recently I also finished reading One Bite With a Vampire by Louisa Masters, the second book in the Hidden Species series. This is another M/M paranormal romance series with some fun characters and a different take on certain titles and species. Check out the first book, Demons Do It Better, if you’re interested!

What do I think I’ll read next?

12968705

After Foundryside, Emily and I are going to start the first book in the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson, The Final Empire. We’ve both had this book on our TBR list for years now and are excited to experience reading it together! I’m not too sure about Emily, but this will be my first time reading something from Brandon Sanderson and I’ve only heard good things so my expectations may be slightly biased. Hopefully it doesn’t disappoint! After I finish up Dark Around the Edges, I’ll probably read The Wolf at Bay by Charlie Adhara, the second book in the Big Bad Wolf series, another M/M paranormal romance. I read the first book awhile ago and the rest of the series recently became available through my local library. I’ve also been slowly rereading The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. He released TWO books last year and I bought them both immediately, so I had decided to reread the series in order to prepare. It’s been a bit slow going but I’ll get there eventually.

WWW Wednesdays is a weekly bookish meme formally hosted by MizB of A Daily Rhythm, and revived by Sam of Taking on a World of Words. This meme consists of answering the following three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

For now, I will be participating monthly instead of weekly.

What am I currently reading?

17158532Currently I am reading Kings Rising by C.S. Pacat, the third and final installment of the Captive Prince trilogy. I read this series for the first time back in 2016 and simply felt it was time for a reread. I’m falling in love all over again. I highly recommend these books. I’m also reading Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson, 17182126the first book in The Reckoners series. This was my book club read for March and, because I wasn’t able to make it to the meeting that month, it’s been on the back burner. I was really getting into it and then other books caught my attention, as they are wont to do. I’m hoping to get back to it soon. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Brandon Sanderson and his Mistborn series has been on my TBR for quite awhile now.

What did I recently finish reading?

33640227I finally finished the Tales of Verania series by T.J. Klune when I read the final installment, A Wish Upon the Star. This is another of my favorite M/M series and I’m extremely sad it is finished. These are some of the funniest books I’ve ever read. The characters…I can’t gush about them enough. And the overall plot and world-building? Freakin’ fantastic. I will definitely be rereading this series, mostly likely multiple times, in the future. After finishing up Red Rising and Golden Son, I knew I needed to see what Morning Star had in store for me. AND I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. The third 18966806book in this series by Pierce Brown was amazing! These books quickly became one of my favorite series. I cannot wait to continue them as the next book takes place ten years after the events of Morning Star. I haven’t decided if I’m going to read it soon or wait until the fifth and sixth book come out as well. We’ll see. I also read The Fever King by Victoria Lee, the first book in the Feverwake series. I enjoyed it for the most part, 31359082but I’m more interested to see where the author takes the story. I also reread all three books in the Beautiful Monsters series by Jex Lane, along with the short story, Stone Sentinel. This is another one of my favorite M/M series. The world-building is fantastic, along with the characters. There are so many twists and turns throughout the plot that you can’t help but want to keep reading it. This series is for mature audiences! The violence is bloody and the sex is steamy! Be warned before picking it up. But it’s totally worth it! I’m still impatiently waiting for the fourth book to come out. I’ve been in a very ‘reread’ mood recently, because I also reread all three books in the All For the Game series by Nora Sakavic. This is a sport-related M/M series where the actual romance takes a back seat. I really enjoy these books but they’re quite emotionally21422225 draining. And then there was April’s book club pick and let me tell you, we were all majorly disappointed. The Queen of All that Dies by Laura Thalassa was…not good. Don’t let the cover fool you. I rarely give books just one star but this first installment managed it. I DNF at 70%, having not finished before our meeting and having no drive to finish it at all afterwards. I’m honestly surprised it has an average of 4 stars on Goodreads. The plot was bad. The characters were bad. The world-building was bad. There was absolutely nothing I enjoyed about this book. Even the writing wasn’t any good. I do not recommend.

What do I think I’ll read next?

20820994May’s book for book club is I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. Although I will not be making it to the next meeting – I will be thoroughly enjoying the sun in Hawaii on a family vacation to visit my sister – but I still plan on reading this one. Funnily enough, when I visited Emmy over my winter break, I took some books she was getting rid of and this happened to be one of them.  I’m still hoping to get to Crooked Kingdom in the near future, possibly over the summer.

  • What do you think you’ll read next?

For now, I will be participating monthly instead of weekly.

What am I currently reading?

32075671Currently I am reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. This is my book club’s February read. I’m only a couple chapters in, so I need to get my butt in gear and read some more since our meeting is next week. I’m enjoying it so far and am really interested to see where it goes, since quite a bit has happened already. I’m also debating about watching the movie after reading it to see how they did.

What did I recently finish reading?

18966819

I finished reading Red Rising by Pierce Brown and quickly jumped into the second book in the series, Golden Son. Red Rising was a fantastic beginning to this series. I admit I personally had to get through the first part to start really getting into the book, and it took me a bit to get used to Brown’s writing style, but once I did I couldn’t put it down. We had a great discussion about the book during our meeting last month and I couldn’t wait to continue this series. I ended reading Golden Son fairly quickly as well. I enjoyed both books immensely. I was leaning toward the first one a little more, but once I got to the end of the second it completely blew my mind. I’m still processing it and it’s been two weeks. I cannot wait to see what happens in the third book. And I also heard that they’re in the very early stages of making this series into a TV show. I always have mixed feelings about this – I think how it turns out really depends Image result for halfway to the graveon who is going to produce it. I also ended up reading Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost, the first book in the Night Huntress series. I put this book on the Books I’d Like to Read in 2019 post I did last month. It’s one that has been on my TBR list for quite some time now. I ended up giving it 3.5 stars. I enjoyed it for the most part, but I found this main character, Cat, just a bit too…meh, I guess. I think it was because she was still fairly young and that influenced her way of thinking quite a bit. And I know her upbringing in the book had influence on her as well, so I tried to be understanding, but it still was annoying at times. I still liked her, but I wanted to like her more. I’m hoping she’ll develop nicely throughout the series. I really liked Bones, and the ending to the first book peaked my interest to where I am looking forward to reading the second book. But I have a few other series I’m interested before returning to this one.

What do I think I’ll read next?

18966806Next up I plan on reading Morning Star by Pierce Brown, the third book in the Red Rising Saga. Although I’m still processing the second book, I NEED TO KNOW what happens in the third. I almost jumped into it right after Golden Son, but I knew I should try to get my book club book read first. I can’t wait! I also still plan on reading the fourth and final book in the Tales From Verania series by T.J. Klune, A Wish Upon the Stars. I’ll probably read it once I finish up Morning Star. I’m hoping to get to  Crooked Kingdom in the near future as well.

15839976

42595496Currently I am reading the first book in the Red Riding Trilogy by Pierce Brown, Red Rising.  This is the book my book club is reading for this month and I am thoroughly enjoying it! I am also reading Ignite by Nora Phoenix, the first book in a new sci-fi, M/M romance series.  It’s been a quick, interesting read and I’m intrigued to see where she takes the story and the characters.

What did I recently finish reading?

25944798

Recently, I FINALLY finished reading the third book in The Remnant Chronicles series, The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson.  I was buddy reading this series with  Emily and a friend, but I got distracted by other things and put it off…for about a year ^^; Emily went on ahead and finished it and since I actually went to visit her the other week, I figured now would be a good time to get back to it. It was a pretty good YA series. There were a few things about the ending that bothered me, but overall I enjoyed this last installment. And I’m also planning to eventually read Pearson’s new series set in the same world.

What do I think I’ll read next?

33640227Next up I plan on reading the fourth and final book in the Tales From Verania series by T.J. Klune, A Wish Upon the Stars. I fell in love with the first book in this series and I am very sad to see it come to an end. I re-read the first two books and read the third for the first time a couple of months ago. I meant to read this one right after, but I have a habit of putting off the last book in series I enjoy because I don’t want it to end. If you’re looking for a fantasy-based M/M romance with a hilarious cast of characters I highly recommend this series!

What am I currently reading?

37777178

33555224Currently I am reading the first book in The Rowan Harbor Cycle by Sam Burns, Blackbird in the Reeds – another M/M series I picked up.  I’m liking it so far and it’s a pretty quick read – less than 200 pages. I’m also about to start Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman, the second book in the Arc of a Scythe series. Can’t wait to see how this series continues to play out! :D I’m still plugging away at the third book in The Remnant Chronicles series, The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson. We were getting back to it but it’s slowed down once again. But we’ll get there!

What did I recently finish reading?

26695561It’s been a bit since my last WWW post and in that time I’ve actually read quite a few books. I finished the first book in the Unbreakable Bonds series, Shiver by Jocelynn Drake and Rinda Elliott, as well as the other three books in the series and all four novellas. I really came to like these books and it quickly became one of my favorite M/M series. They’re working on a companion series that touches on characters introduced in this series, so I’m 22664303excited to read that one as well. I also picked up another M/M series, the Marshals books by Mary Calmes. I’ve read the first two in the series, All Kinds of Tied Down and Fit to be Tied. These are actually rereads for me – I wanted to reread them because the fourth book is coming out this month. This is another series I really enjoy. I finished reading  Scythe by Neal Shusterman, the first book in the Arc of a Scythe series. This was February’s read for my book club and it 28954189definitely lived up to all the hype! I really enjoyed it. The only slight issue, not even an issue really, I had was the way it was written left me slightly…detached, I guess? Normally when reading I’m right there in the story with the characters, but this one it was almost like looking through a two-way mirror – I was watching the story unfold but I wasn’t really a part of it. Does that make any sense? xD It didn’t deter from the reading experience though, it was just interesting to me. I also ended up reading the third and final book in the Bounty series  by Christine d’Abo, No Master. I read the first two in the series back in October. I was meaning to read this one soon after but, as usual, got distracted by other things. And 23437156finally, I finished Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I started this one back in January and read a decent chunk, but ended up pausing for awhile. Not because it was bad or anything, far from it, I just think I was in M/M mood for awhile. But it turns out Six of Crows is now this months read for the book club and I actually ended up finishing it that very weekend after our meeting. It was sooooo good!!! I adored all of the characters and the plot kept you ensnared the entire time. Once I got back into it I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed the Grisha trilogy, but I have to say I enjoyed this one more and can’t wait to read the second.

What do I think I’ll read next?

22299763Next up I will be starting Crooked Kingdom, the second (and presumably last) book in the Six of Crows series by Leigh Bardugo. I can’t wait to see how the series wraps up, although I’ll be sad that I won’t get to spend any more time with the characters! D; Hopefully Bardugo will keep writing though, since I thoroughly enjoy her books.

What am I currently reading?

23437156

26695561I’m still steadily reading Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, the first book in the Six of Crows duology. The last two of the six outcasts were introduced and I can’t wait until the groups adventure really begins! I also picked up another M/M book (surprise, surprise), the first book in the Unbreakable Bonds series, Shiver by Jocelynn Drake and Rinda Elliott. I’m really liking the characters in this book so I can’t wait to see what happens throughout the rest of the series, since the other books all focus on a different character.  I’m still plugging away at the third book in The Remnant Chronicles series, The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson. There was a slight pause on this book while my friend caught up, but we’re getting back to it! I’m excited to see how the conclusion plays out. I’m also still reading the thirteenth and final book in The Hollows series by Kim Harrison, The Witch With No Name. It’s still on the back-burner – and probably will be until I finish the Six of Crows duology.

What did I recently finish reading?

29622131I finished reading The Glass Spare, the first book in The Glass Spare series by Lauren DeStefano. This was the first book I read for the book club I recently joined. The first meeting I attended was last weekend and it was great! It was held at the apartment of the two girls that started the club. There were snacks, everyone was so nice and welcoming, we talked a ton about books (of course!). It was really a great time and I’m so glad my co-worker invited me to be a part of it. Really, the whole thing is so well-organized and awesome. I can’t wait for the next meeting! But, back to the book, The Glass Spare was a quick, easy read. The characters were interesting enough but I didn’t really love any of them. You can definitely tell this book’s main purpose is to set up the next. There were a few things that I felt like should have been touched on before this one ended, but they weren’t. I did think the world-building was neat. It was kind of a mix between medieval and the beginnings of technology. I’ll most likely pick up the second book but that one will determine if I continue the series or not. I also finished reading  Lime Gelatin and Other Monsters, the first book in the Offbeat Crimes series by Angel Martinez. Like I mentioned in my last WWW post, it was a fun, quirky read and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

What do I think I’ll read next?

28954189Next up I will be starting Scythe by Neal Shusterman, the first book in the Arc of a Scythe series. This is this month’s pick for the book club. We got to vote out of three books and everyone selected this one. It was already on my TBR list, so I was excited! Once again, I’m so excited to be a part of this club. It’s nice having another outlet for books besides the blogosphere. I’ve mentioned before, not many of my friends read and one of the one’s who does is so busy she barely has any time to, no matter how many books I peer pressure her to start… xD

What am I currently reading?

23437156

29622131Right now I am currently reading five books. FIVE! I started Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, the first book in the Six of Crows duology. I’m only a few chapters in but so far I’m enjoying it! I’m super excited to learn more about Kaz – he seems like such a neat character! I also began The Glass Spare, the first book in The Glass Spare series by Lauren DeStefano. I’m mostly focusing on this one at the moment because my first meeting for the book club I joined is next Wednesday so I’d like to finish it before then if I’m able. It’s another one I’m really enjoying! I’m still plugging away at the third book in The Remnant Chronicles series, The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson. One of my friends is a bit behind in our buddy read so hopefully we keep at it once she catches up! I started reading a M/M book, Lime Gelatin and Other Monsters, the first book in the Offbeat Crimes series by Angel Martinez. It’s a fun quirky read so far! I’m also still reading the thirteenth and final book in The Hollows series by Kim Harrison, The Witch With No Name. It’s kind of on the back-burner for now as the others are holding my interest a bit more at the moment.

What did I recently finish reading?

14061957I finished up the third and final book in the Grisha trilogy, Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo. It was so good! My emotions went on a roller coaster throughout this book but I have to say I was overall pretty satisfied with how things wrapped up in the end. After reading Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more books by this author! I also read the third book in the Signs of Love series by Anyta Sunday, Gemini Keeps Capricorn. This series is so cute and funny! I hope there’s at least a few more. I’ve come to really like this author as well.

What do I think I’ll read next?

Honestly, my mind is too busy with wanting to just finish the books I’m currently reading that I don’t even want to think of what I’m going to read afterwards. Especially now that I’m back to work and school starts up again soon! I’ll most likely have something for this spot in my next WWW post though!

What am I currently reading?

14061957Some of you may have seen my TT post yesterday, but yes! I’ve finally started the third and final book in the Grisha trilogy, Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo.  And I’m actually a little over two-thirds done with it already! Go me! I’ll probably finish it in the next day or so. I’m also plugging away at the third book in The Remnant Chronicles series, The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson. This is the book I’m buddy reading with Emily and another friend. I’m liking it so far! I’m still reading the thirteenth and final book in The Hollows series by Kim Harrison, The Witch With No Name. I think once I’m done with Ruin and Rising I’m going to focus on finishing this one up. As I mentioned in my last WWW post, I feel myself drifting away again but really want to complete this series!

What did I recently finish reading?

34715224I finally sat down and read Flight of Magpies, the third and final book in the A Charm of Magpies series by K.J. Charles. I had started it a few months ago and since then it was just a game of renewing it from the library until I finally decided to read it. I hadn’t gotten far into the book so I decided to just start over and ended up finishing it in two days! I can definitely say I’m out of the little reading slump I had been in earlier this month. Finishing up school stuff and then my friend’s wedding was keeping me so busy I hadn’t been getting a lot of reading done. But now I’m on break and, because I work part-time at a school, I have no work this week or the next! It’s nice but sad at the same time since…no moolah, ya know? I am in search of another part-time 36064768job though so we’ll see how that goes. ANYWAY. I also read Fence, issue #1 & 2, a new comic written by C.S. Pacat, author of the Captive Prince series. I completely forgot this comic was coming out until it popped up under ‘recommended titles’ on my Kindle app. And by then I only had to wait a few days to read the second issue. I read a few Marvel comics so I’m used to having to wait a month for issues to come out, but it still sucks. Especially for those who aren’t used to it. Although I feel like people forget it’s a comic because I see all of these reviews complaining about the length! It’s a comic people, not a novel. Thirty pages is normal, if not generous, for a comic. So quit your whining and wait patiently for the young, handsome fencers! I’m really liking it so far and can’t wait for the third issue! :D

What do I think I’ll read next?

29622131I’m going to be picking up The Glass Spare in the near future. It is a new release (well, new as in released in October) and the first book in The Glass Spare series by Lauren DeStefano. I was talking with a coworker the other week and she was telling me about how she was a part of a book club. I immediately took interest and she asked if I wanted to join! So of course I said yes! They meet once a month, so I figured that was doable for my schedule. This is the book they chose for January. I’m really excited! Maybe I’ll even write a post about the first meeting I attend. Also, now that I’ll be finishing up with the Grisha trilogy soon, I’d like to read Six of Crows. Can’t wait!

  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What am I currently reading?

I am about to start reading the third book in The Remnant Chronicles series, The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson. Emily, myself, and a friend buddy read the first two books and we finally started the third. Although it’s a bit trope-y, I enjoyed the first two and can’t wait to see how this series concludes. I’m also still reading the thirteenth and final book in The Hollows series by Kim Harrison, The Witch With No Name. I need to plug away at this one more than I have been. I was in the mood for a bit, but I feel myself slowly drifting away again. I would really like to finish this series so I just need to get my butt in gear and read it. I’m still chipping away at Flight of Magpies, the third and final book in the A Charm of Magpies series by K.J. Charles as well.

What did I recently finish reading?

33349745A lot of stuff has been happening in life recently so I haven’t been reading as much as I like – I’ve also been trying to catch up on my comic books. But I did manage to read a couple books since my last WWW post. I read Pins and Needles, a standalone novel by A.J. Thomas, an author mentioned in my previous WWW post. It seems that I tend to default to M/M books whenever I have time to read, although I usually intend to read other books. This was a nice, fun read and I enjoyed both the characters and the plot. I’ve definitely come 33308391to like this author in general. I also picked up another M/M romance, Scorpio Hates Virgo, the second book in the Signs of Love series by Anyta Sunday. I really enjoy this author as well. I picked up the first book in the series back over the summer and I just happened to notice that the second one had recently been published, so I gobbled it up. This is cute, funny series. The third book is releasing later this month as well – I can’t wait. I had to read a book on leadership for one of my classes, Lead from the Heart by Mark C. Crowley, and I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It’s not my favorite book or anything, but the author had some interesting and relate-able stories and some valid points on leadership in general. However, it helped that it was on the short side.

What do I think I’ll read next?

14061957I AM GOING TO READ the third and final book in the Grisha trilogy, Ruin and Rising, by Leigh Bardugo. SOON. I PROMISE. I’m hoping to pick it up at the library during break. I really want to see how this series ends – plus I really want to read Six of Crows. I’m probably also going to read the third book in the Signs of Love series I mentioned above, which comes out in a few weeks. I’m planning on continuing the Jack Daniels series as well. And read more M/M.

What are you currently reading? Have you read any of the books above? Let me know in the comments!

Happy reading! :)
