I will be starting Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman, the second book in the Arc of a Scythe series. I loved the first one and can’t wait to see what happens to Citra and Rowan next!

My teaser:

Peach velvet with embroidered baby-blue trim. Honorable Scythe Brahms loved his robe. True, the velvet became uncomfortably hot in the summer months, but it was something he had grown accustomed to in his sixty-three years as a scythe.

I’m about to start the next book for my book club, Scythe by Neal Shusterman, the first book in the Arc of a Scythe series. I’ve a heard a lot of good things about this book so I’m excited! Let’s hope it’s a good one!

My teaser:

The scythe arrived late on a cold November afternoon. Citra was at the dining room table, slaving over a particularly difficult algebra problem, shuffling variables, unable to solve for X or Y when this new and far more pernicious variable entered her life’s equation.

I mentioned in my previous WWW post that I had decided to join a book club through one of my co-workers. The first meeting of the year is next week so I recently started reading the book that had been picked out for this month. That book is The Glass Spare, the first book in The Glass Spare series by Lauren DeStefano. I’m about 1/3 of the way done and so far I’m digging it. I hope I continue to do so as I keep on reading!

The estherpetals gave Wil a sleep that was mercifully free of dreams. She awoke with a sense that she had blinked and everything from the night before had just disappeared.
The mirror said otherwise. She sat at her dressing table and selected a pale pink lipstick to hide the cut on her bottom lip.

I’m doing it, guys. I’M DOING IT. I’m finally reading the third and final book in the Grisha trilogy, Ruin and Rising, by Leigh Bardugo. For those that have read my last several WWW posts, you know this book has been in my “What do you think you’ll read next?” section for…a long time. I don’t know why I didn’t get around to starting it after I finished the second book. My interests just wandered elsewhere. But I finally picked it up at the library again and am going to start it as soon as I finish this post. Well, I might eat some breakfast first…but after that!

My teaser:

The monster’s name was Izumrud, the great worm, and there were those who claimed he had made the tunnels that ran beneath Ravka. Sick with appetite, he ate up silt and gravel, burrowing deeper and deeper into the earth, searching for something to satisfy his hunger, until he’d gone too far and lost himself in the dark.

I’m starting a buddy read with Emily and one of my other friends. We’re reading the third book in The Remnant Chronicles series, The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson. Some might remember me talking about reading the first two books with these lovely ladies, but it’s been awhile since we finished up the second one. Life and stuff, ya know? I haven’t quite started this one yet (sorry Emmy! ^^;) but I’m going to either tonight or tomorrow. I promise!

My teaser:

Darkness was a beautiful thing. The kiss of a shadow. A caress as soft as moonlight. It had always been my refuge, my place of escape, whether I was sneaking onto a rooftop lit only by the stars or down a midnight alley to be with my brothers. Darkness was my ally. It made me forget the world I was in and invited me to dream another.

It’s been forever since I’ve done one of these posts. My 50-Day Bookish Challenge posts have mostly held my attention for the past few weeks. Some of you may remember that I had started reading the thirteenth and final book in The Hollows series by Kim Harrison, The Witch With No Name, back in…April. Damn, has it really been that long?!?! Anyway, I read a good chunk and then just kind of stopped. So now I’ve been in the mood to get back to it, however I’m starting over because…yeah, apparently it’s been awhile.

My teaser:

The coffee smell coming from the wax-coated cup was nauseatingly familiar, and I held it listlessly as I sat in the chair I’d pulled into the carpeted hallway. The oil-like sheen on the surface caught the fluorescent lights, showing the shake in my hand.

Today I finished the first book in the A Charm of Magpies series by K.J. Charles, The Magpie Lord. It was a fun, quick read and I really enjoyed the plot as well as the characters. So, of course, I’ll be reading the second book, A Case of Possession. Will probably even start it tonight.

My teaser:

On a hot summer’s night, in a small, bare clerk’s room in Limehouse, a few streets from the stench of the river and three doors down from an opium den, Lucien Vaudrey, the Earl Crane, was checking lading bills. This was not his preferred way to spend an evening, but since his preferences hadn’t been consulted, and the worked needed to be done, he was doing it.

I recently started reading the Jack Daniels mystery series by J.A. Konrath and am currently on the third book, Rusty Nail. I’m really enjoying this series so far.

My teaser:

I stood on the curb and called Officer Hajek at the Crime Lab, asking if he had time later to swing by Mulrooney’s office to see what could be done with the answering machine. He promised me he would.
“…did you like the video, Jack? You’re next…”
I shuddered.
This wasn’t the first time I’d been a target, but that didn’t mean I was used to it.
I walked back to my car, acutely aware of my surroundings.

I am still plugging away at the second book in the Grisha trilogy, Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo. I’ve been kind of everywhere with reading recently, and unfortunately it’s taking longer than I thought to get this one read. I think I’ve mentioned before, I actually get quite a bit of reading done at one of my jobs. However, the company is having some legal issues at the moment and has closed down for the time being. Sadly, that means less reading time. And less money…of course.

My teaser:

14061955

Despite its name, I loved the war room. The cartographer in me couldn’t resist the old maps wrought in animal hide and embellished in whimsical detail: the gilded lighthouse at Os Kervo, the mountain temples of the Shu, the mermaids that swam at the edges of the seas.

Tonight I’ll be starting the second book in the Grisha trilogy, Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo. I really enjoyed the first book and am super looking forward to continuing the trilogy!

My teaser:

14061955

The boy and the girl had once dreamed of ships, long ago, before they’d ever seen the True Sea. They were the vessels of stories, magic ships with masts hewn from sweet cedar and sails spun by maidens from thread of pure gold. Their crews were white mice who sang songs and scrubbed the decks with their pink tails.
