Books I’d Like To Read in 2017

I stumbled upon Emily’s 17 in 2017 post and liked the idea of picking out certain books/series that I would like to read this coming year. I am a mood reader, so there’s no guarantee that I’ll actually read these specific books, but I think it’ll help me narrow it down when I’m looking for what to read next.

  • Peace Talks by Jim Butcher – This is the sixteenth book in the Dresden Files series. One of my favorite series, mind you. I believe it was originally supposed to come out this year but it didn’t. And there’s still no release date for it, which makes me sad. But I’m really hoping it’ll come out sometime next year! I’m gonna cry if it doesn’t…
  • The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson – I asked Emily if she would be interested in doing a buddy read with this book and she agreed! So we’re going to do that. I’m not sure when yet…we should figure that out.
  • A Destiny of Dragons by T.J. Klune – the second book in the Tales From Verania series. I fell madly in love with the first book and I cannot wait for the second! I believe it’s supposed to come out sometime in June. I NEED IT NOW, DAMMIT!
  • Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff – I tried this book a couple of weeks ago but just wasn’t in the mood. I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway and I would really like to read it and post a review! But if I’m not in the mood to read it I don’t want that keeping me from enjoying the book. So I’ll try again sometime next year!
  • The Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancey – the second book in The Monstrumologist series. I read the first book earlier this year and liked it so I would like to continue this series. The library didn’t have the second book for some reason so I’m hoping they will get it. Otherwise I’ll probably buy it.
  • Against the Grain by Charlie Cochet – the fifth book in the THIRDS series. I also started this series earlier this year and fell in love with both the plot and the characters! Unfortunately my library doesn’t have the fifth book, although they have the sixth and seventh, so I’ll probably have to buy this one too.
  • Whiskey Sour by J.A. Konrath – the first in the Jack Daniels mystery series. This seems like a fun read and the synopsis reminds me of the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich, which I really enjoyed and need to finish as well.
  • Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – the first in The Grisha trilogy. I’ve heard many good things about this series and the ‘sequel’ series, Six of Crows, sounds really good as well.
  • The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater – the first in The Raven Cycle series. I feel like there has been quite a bit of hype over this series, especially because the last book came out earlier this year. It sounds like a good read so I may give this one a try after I finish up Half Lost. Unless something else captures my interest before then.
  • Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick – the first in the Hush, Hush series. This series has been on my book list for a long time so I would like to finally get around to reading it. It’s only four books long so it shouldn’t be that hard to get through.

Of course there are hundreds of more books I would like to read but these are just a few that I may or may not get around to reading sometime in 2017. Have you read any of these? If so, what did you think? Are there any specific books you plan on reading next year? Let me know!

Happy reading! :)

What am I currently reading?

I am currently reading the twelfth book in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison, The Undead Pool. As I mentioned yesterday in my TT post, I’m about halfway done with this book already. More than that now, actually. So far it’s been another fantastic installment to the series and I’m super happy that something finally happened in this book! But I can’t say what that is because it would be a spoiler…*sigh*. Either way, due to it being winter break I have been reading quite a lot recently. I told myself I would catch up on my shows, but books have been holding my interest more at the moment. Which isn’t a bad thing, of course. So I will hopefully be finishing this one up soon! Then just one more book to go!

What did I recently finish reading?

Image result for ever after kim harrisonI recently finished reading the eleventh book in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison, Ever AfterI mentioned last week that this one had been a bit more slow-going for me, since I kept getting distracted by other things, but I picked it back up and couldn’t put it down until I was finished with it! I’ve really been enjoying this series and I’ve been plugging away at it the entire year. It’s going to be weird when I actually finish it!

What do I think I’ll read next?

20814993Next up I plan on reading the third and final book in The Half Bad Trilogy by Sally Green, Half Lost. Last week I was debating about starting this book right away or waiting for the weekend. I did neither. I got wrapped up in the Hollows series and kind of put this one on hold. But I plan on picking it back up, probably sometime next week. I can’t wait to see how this one ends!

One of my good friends, Emily @ Embuhleeliest, tagged me in the Rapid Fire Book Tag! According to her, the point is to just blurt out the first answers that come to your mind without rambling on about it (which I tend to do…^^;). So here it goes!

I am currently reading the twelfth book in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison, The Undead Pool. I’ve been seriously zooming through this book. I’d say I’m about halfway done and I just started it the other day.

My teaser:

Tulpa was a sweet, biddable horse, and I gave the old stallion a little pat as Trent came up beside us. Both horses shunned the tall, whispering grass, already having sampled it to find it as distasteful as everything else in the ever-after. The harsh landscape had a dusky red sheen, the nearly full moon nearing the western horizon. It was just shy of midnight and we’d been riding for hours.

What am I currently reading?

Yup, I am still currently plugging away at the eleventh book in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison, Ever After. Once again I’ve become distracted by another series. Shame, shame. But I’ll find my way back to this one soon. I’ve also decided to put a bit of a hold on reading, Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith. I don’t know what’s wrong with me recently. Between Grasshopper Jungle and Stormdancer…that’s two books now that I began only to put off. I rarely ever do that. Must have been in a reading slump or something. It’s not that I didn’t like them, I just…wasn’t feeling it at this current point in time. I’ll get back to both of them eventually.

What did I recently finish reading?

18079804I recently finished reading the first book in The Half Bad Trilogy, Half Bad by Sally Green. I’ve been wanting to read this series for quite some time. And, due to my slight reading slump, I thought it would help. It did. I almost read the entire book before I decided I needed to sleep. I loved the characters, the plot, the writing style, the cover (although that’s not really all that important)…pretty much everything. Two days after that I already had the second and third books from the library. I began and finished the second book, Half Wild, yesterday. It was just as good as the first, if not more so. I actually heard someone – FOX,  I think- already picked up the movie rights for this series. But, I’ve learned not to get too excited about that anymore. The books are always better. It would be really neat to see this one on the screen though.

What do I think I’ll read next?

Image result for the undead pool kim harrison20814993I still plan on reading the twelfth book in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison, The Undead Pool. There was a long hold line for the e-book and I finally have it now, but since I haven’t even finished the eleventh one I’m not sure I’ll get around to reading this one before I have to return it. Hopefully there aren’t too many holds the next round. I also plan on reading the third and final book in The Half Bad Trilogy by Sally Green, Half Lost. I have that checked out from the library as well, but I’m debating about starting it now or waiting until this weekend. I have things I need to get done today and tomorrow, then Friday I work all day. But Saturday I get off early and Sunday there’s no work due to the holiday. So my dilemma is do I start it now and read it a bit more slowly, or do I wait for the weekend to just sit down and read the whole thing in one go? xD

I am currently reading the second book in The Half Bad Trilogy by Sally Green, Half Wild. I’ve been in the mood to read this series for awhile and just picked up the first book the other day. I almost read the entire thing in a few hours, but then sleep became somewhat of a priority. I finished it up yesterday and started the second one this morning. I’m really liking this series, if you couldn’t tell.

My teaser:

There’s movement below me, a black figure partly hidden by the forest. Then there’s a grunt. I tread softly but quickly down. The black figure moves away from me and is lost in the trees. Only Hunters can be that fast and quiet – no fain could do that. And I follow.

WWW Wednesdays #48 – December 14th

Yes, I know it’s Thursday, not Wednesday, but yesterday was my last day of finals and after that I was too busy being happy that I can now enjoy a month without school to sit down and get on the computer. I’m hoping that break time will actually make me a bit more active, but we’re going to be moving into the new house shortly so unfortunately that’ll keep me pretty occupied. We’ll see though!

What am I currently reading?

Image result for ever after kim harrison

I am still currently reading the eleventh book in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison, Ever After. Like I mentioned ‘yesterday’ in my TT post, this one’s been a bit slow going. I don’t know why. I just keep getting preoccupied with other things when I try to read it. Plus, I always feel like I slow down when I get near the end of a series I really enjoy. I don’t want the magic to end, ya know? I do that with TV shows too. I’ll put of17261190f watching the last episode or two because I just don’t wanna go through the overwhelming finality of all characters that I’ve grown to love. Sappy, I know. But it is what it is. I also started reading the first in The Lotus War series by Jay Kristoff, StormdancerThis is the book I won in the Goodreads giveaway. However, I’m barely into and I may end up coming back to this one. I’ve mentioned many times that I happen to be a mood reader. And, unfortunately, I’m just not in the current mood to read this book. I really would like to enjoy, so I want to make sure I’m in the mood while I read it. So, I may put this one back on the back-burner for now. I’ll most likely try it again sometime next year. I began reading another book as well, Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith. This one seemed like a fun read so I thought I’d give it a try. It’s definitely interesting so far, I’ll tell you that.

What did I recently finish reading?

29069989The only book I’ve finished reading since my last WWW post is Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling. I know there have been mixed feelings about this one, but I myself enjoyed it. It was different reading it in a screenplay style, but that didn’t take away from the story. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know what goes on nineteen years after the last Harry Potter book. Honestly, it felt like a well-thought-out fanfiction. I would love to actually see the play one of these days.

What do I think I’ll read next?

Image result for the undead pool kim harrisonThe next book I plan on reading is the twelfth book in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison, The Undead Pool. Once I finally finish up reading the eleventh one, that is. I’ll probably be picking up another series as well, once I finish Grasshopper Jungle, but I’m not too sure what that will be yet. I’ll probably pick something out by next week, at the latest.

I am currently reading the eleventh book in the Hollows series by Kim Harrison, Ever AfterI’m getting through this one a bit slower than I thought I would, but I’ve gotten distracted by a few other books at the moment. I’ll share those tomorrow in my WWW post.

“Rachel, would you like to come to tea tomorrow?”
Jenks looked up from his soiled silk jacket, surprise in his angular face. Trent had stood, and I started at how fast it had been. He had a direction, and it changed everything. It was back, the power and certainty were back, and something in me shivered.
“Tea?” Jenks was standing next to the plate of petits fours. “You want to have tea? Are you nerking futs?”
The light caught the tips of his hair as Trent came up to the center counter, the fair strands beginning to float in his excitement. “I know of something you might want to read.”
